Banks received the Research Review Award from the American Educational Research Association in 1996 and the Presidents' Award from the Teaching of English to Speakers of Other Languages in 1998. He holds honorary doctorates from the Bank Street College of Education and the University of Alaska, Fairbanks. Banks is a member of the Board of Children, Youth, and Families of the National Research Council. He is also a member of the National Academy of Education.The Associate EditorCherry A.
